Throughout the course of my pregnancy, there has been nothing more absolutely divine than crawling into bed for a mid-afternoon nap.
Between a rapidly expanding waistline, a sweet baby boy sucking the energy from DEEP within my bones, and a small business to steward, those crisp white sheets beckoned me in at 2pm every afternoon and I’d sleep for one..two…sometimes even three hours until Mitch would walk into the bedroom after work and playfully roll his eyes at my sleeping habits.
“Sleep now, once you have the baby you’ll be deprived.” They said.
So I did. And if you told me back then (at the peak of my morning sickness) that I’d be banished to bed rest at 30 weeks…I probably would have pretended I was horrified yet secretly rejoiced at the thought of a 10 week vacation in my beloved bed.
Two weeks in and it’s not all bad. But man, I’d love to go on a chilly autumn walk with Hank. Or a bake a cozy assortment of desserts in the kitchen. Or even just peruse the adorable baby boutiques in Des Moines.
It’s like, I envisioned my third trimester to be this energetic frenzy of nesting and preparing our home…but instead I’m like a lethargic cat, perched on my bed, peering at the world out the window. For whatever reason, this is how I’m meant to prepare for our baby boy. I believe that God can use any situation for good and so I fight the cabin fever with little reminders that this season will pass quickly and once I see baby’s face I won’t even remember these endless days in bed. In fact, I just might miss the “relaxation”.
Until then, I’ll just be here. Feeling his kicks. Wondering what he’ll look like. And trying to maintain some sort of muscle tone in my legs.
